Today KIDS launches a new suite of resources to support families and carers of disabled children and young people to help them navigate the reforms to Special Educational Needs and Disability provision.
The full suite of resources is available to view on the KIDS website: www.kids.org.uk/mip2
KIDS works with disabled children, young people and their families. As part of the ‘Making it Personal:2’ project, sponsored by the Department for Education, KIDS has worked with a number of partners to develop a new suite of resources to explore how personal budgets and the local offer will benefit families.
This comprehensive suite aims to reach a range of audiences to help them understand how they can use the new system to their advantage and provide a holistic service to families and carers. KIDS worked in partnership with the Office for Public Management (OPM), In Control, the National Association of Family Information Services (NAFIS) and the Family and Childcare Trust to produce these resources as well as a number of local voluntary and statutory providers, groups of parents, carers, disabled children and young people.
The suite includes:
· Guidance for providers on how to become personal budget ready through downloadable resources and an eLearning suite.
· Refreshed and extended guidance and eLearning modules on personal budgets and direct payments for families.
· Refreshed and extended guidance for commissioners on how they can work across health, education and social care to support families.
· Guidance for Family Information Services to ensure that they are equipped to support families by identifying the range of services available to them under the local offer.
Children and Families Minister Edward Timpson said:
“I’m proud we’ve sponsored these fantastic resources which will complement our SEND reforms.
“Children, young people and their families will now be at the centre of a more simple, joined-up system that provides the support they deserve.
“We’re committed to helping families get the best information possible about the new system that will help children and young people with SEND from birth to 25.”
Regional events to support this will be taking place from October 2014 to March 2015.

We would like to make parents aware of the following letter that has been recently issued by the MHRA, who regulate medicines and medical devices in the UK (click on the underlined text to view).
The letter states that for many people it is safe to switch from one manufacturer of their antiepileptic drugs to another. However with some particular types of antiepileptics doctors and pharmacists should now advise that they are always produced by the same manufacturer. This is primarily to ensure that the change does not effect seizure control or increase the risk of side effects.
The letter states, and Small Steps - Seize the Day also stress, that you should not make any changes, or stop taking your medication without discussing it with your doctor.

Thank you to all our supporters who have come along to our events recently. Seaham School of Technology kick started the fundraising in February adding £920 from their talent show - well done to Year 11, especially Jade, Aimee and Nathan. Our consett Racenight pulled in £930 with a massive £150 raised from the auction race. Private donations from the local York shopping group brought us £80, Newcastle Airport employee handed us a cheque for £200 and our latest Shopping Fair at the Red Lion Ch-le-St saw us bring in £660. Lets hope the momentum continues and our supporters continue to be there along side us.
We have a Fashion show coming up on May 4th at Red Lion Ch-le-st with the house of Colour leading a spring fashion update with all the latest trends on the catwalk. This is a ticketed event £10 each, to include wine, nibbles and a purple accessory. Contact Jude on 07939029744 to purchase your tickets. Why not make it a girls night out. Tickets purchased in a group of 10 will recieve a 20% discount on the ticket price.
